What is a Notary Public?

A Notary Public is honest, trustworthy, responsible and dignified member of our society. Appointed by the office of the Secretary of State to witness by officially sealed written acknowledgment, or jurat the signing of documents as well as administer oath.

The primary function of a notary is positive identification of the document’s signer – verifying that the person who signed the document is, in fact, the person named in it. Notaries are not responsible for the content of the documents.
